WELCOME to the website of the J T Davies Group of Companies.

 

Our family business was founded in 1875 by Mr J T Davies, who died in 1913 when he was succeeded by his two sons. 

 

Alfred built up the firm and became Personal Private Secretary to Lloyd George during the 1914-1918 war.  He was awarded the CBE, was an MP for Lincoln from 1918 to 1926 and was knighted in 1933.  Sir Alfred died in 1942.  Sir Alfred's sons, John and Anthony, joined the firm before the 1939 war; John was killed in 1940 leading a Polish Hurricane Squadron.  At the end of the war Anthony returned to head and build up the company.  Tony's son, Michael, became Managing Director in 1985 and succeeded his father as Chairman when  Tony died in 1992 after 50 years as Chairman of the company.

 

The company is still privately owned and currently operates with two divisions:  a quality Wholesale Wine and Spirits Division under the banner of MAYOR SWORDER & CO and the Public House Division which is not branded.
